The internet is full of memes, and one of my all-time favourites is Cary Grant pointing to the door, and saying, “Get out!”
So, instead of posting a regular computer tip today, I tracked down the movie that the “Get out!” meme comes from. Now you won’t have to waste time going down internet rabbit holes, looking for the answer yourself. So this is a time-saving tip!
Cary Grant Get Out Meme
Just in case you haven’t seen it, here is the Cary Grant animated gif (Gif or Jif?).
Most days on the internet, you could use this meme in countless Twitter threads or Facebook posts.
What Movie is “Get Out” From?
The “Get out!” scene was in the 1940 movie, His Girl Friday (IMDb link), starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. I’ve watched that movie a few times, but didn’t remember that scene.
Anyway, here’s a 10-second clip from the movie, showing the now-famous phrase.
And in work-related tips, I’m sure you can use this information in your next Zoom call, to liven things up, when the discussion gets boring.
The Get Out Scene Dialog
Here’s the dialog from that video clip, between Walter Burns (Cary Grant) and Sheriff Hartwell (Gene Lockhart).
- Burns: Just a moment, Hartwell. If you have any accusations to make, make them in the proper manner. Otherwise I’ll have to ask you to get out.
- Hartwell: You’ll ask me to what?
- Burns: Get out!
I like it – no time wasted on idle chit-chat, just a simple and direct instruction, “Get out.”
Tip: Don’t waste your time looking for any clips of Cary Grant saying, “Judy, Judy, Judy”. That’s a misquote!
Favourite Cary Grant Movies
Cary Grant starred in so many great movies, that it’s hard to pick just a couple of favourites. You can see his full movie list on the IMDb Cary Grant page.
But if I have to choose one, a long-time favourite of mine is the comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace, which features Peter Lorre and Raymond Massey as the bad guys. The elderly aunts, and their elderberry wine, steal the show though!
Or, if I’m in the mood for a mystery, either Charade or North by Northwest would be my choice. Or both!
What’s your favourite Cary Grant movie? One of his comedies, or something more sophisticated, like Suspicion? That’s the movie they were promoting with the photo shown below.
