{"id":146,"date":"2010-04-20T12:04:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-20T16:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/debradalgleish.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/20\/printing-a-web-page\/"},"modified":"2023-07-02T14:26:52","modified_gmt":"2023-07-02T18:26:52","slug":"printing-a-web-page","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/debradalgleish.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/20\/printing-a-web-page\/","title":{"rendered":"Printing a Web Page"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You might find something online that you want to print, such as instructions for doing something in Excel, or a tasty looking recipe.<\/p>\n<p>Usually that page has a bunch of stuff that you don&#8217;t want to print, like ads and header and footers.<\/p>\n<p>A while ago I <a title=\"discovered Print What You Like\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.contextures.com\/archives\/2008\/09\/19\/print-what-you-like-and-decipher-mysteries\/\">discovered Print What You Like<\/a>, where you can enter a URL, then clean up that page for printing. However, I could never find that page when I needed it, so I rarely used it.<\/p>\n<h3>Printliminator Utility<\/h3>\n<p>Today I found <a title=\"The Printliminator\" href=\"http:\/\/css-tricks.com\/examples\/ThePrintliminator\/\">The Printliminator<\/a>, a similar utility, which runs from a bookmarklet.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Just drag the bookmarklet to your Bookmarks toolbar, then click it when you want to clean up a page.<\/li>\n<li>Highlight a section, then click to remove it<\/li>\n<li>OR, press Alt and click, to remove everything except the selected section.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There&#8217;s also a set of buttons, including one to remove all graphics, and a button to Undo the last step.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1720\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1720\" style=\"width: 615px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1720\" src=\"https:\/\/debradalgleish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/printliminator-1.png\" alt=\"Printliminator tool for web page printing\" width=\"615\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/debradalgleish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/printliminator-1.png 615w, https:\/\/debradalgleish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/printliminator-1-300x148.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1720\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Printliminator tool for web page printing<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Video: Printliminator Utility<\/h3>\n<p>This short video shows how the Printliminator utility works, in case you&#8217;d like to see the tool, before you start using it.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Printliminator\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dt8hpqEIL1c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Print What You Like Bookmarklet<\/h3>\n<p>When I went back to find the Print What You Like page today, I saw that it has a bookmarklet too. Maybe it&#8217;s new, or I missed that the last time that I looked.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I hope you find this useful, and I wish they&#8217;d invent a cleanup tool for email too.
