It’s usually quiet while I work from home, which makes it easier to concentrate on getting things done. There was lots of noise last Sunday though, when our phones blasted out a couple of tornado warnings! How many more things do we have to worry about in 2020?<\/p>\n

Fortunately, I don’t do much work on Sunday \u2013 just my planning for the upcoming week. That task was almost finished when my phone started screeching.<\/p>\n

It was an emergency alert from Environment Canada, with a tornado warning. A few minutes later, they sent another warning. Our area rarely gets a tornado, so we’re not old pros at reacting to news like this!<\/p>\n

Check the Weather<\/h3>\n

I checked Twitter, as one does in any emergency, to see if there was any more info.<\/p>\n

One of the local weather people had tweeted this radar map, with the worst part of the storm circled. The arrow shows where it was headed \u2013 right toward our house. Yikes!<\/p>\n

As I said, we’re not tornado experts, but I think it’s a good idea to stand in front of a big pane of glass, and check the sky. <\/p>\n

We didn’t see see a tornado, but the clouds looked ominous. What’s the difference between storm clouds, and “threatening weather”?<\/p>\n

A few minutes later, I headed back to my office, to check the sky from that direction. This photo was taken in my office at 1 PM, and it looked like the middle of the night.<\/p>\n

No Tornado<\/h3>\n

Fortunately, we didn’t see any tornadoes during the storm, but there was heavy rain and strong wind, soon after that, as you can see in this short video.<\/p>\n

Big trees came down in other parts of the city, but I didn’t hear about any injuries, and we didn’t get any damage here.<\/p>\n
