Ten years ago, on January 4, 2009, I registered the debradalgleish.com domain, to “claim my name” online.\u00a0 I figured that if anyone searched for my name in Google, my domain might be listed near the top of the results. Then, if people landed here, I could direct them to my other sites, like Contextures. Have you got a domain with your name?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Name Domain<\/h3>\n

Fortunately, there aren’t too many other people with my name, so the domain was still available when I decided to register it. Otherwise, I guess you could initials or other identifiers, got get an available domain.<\/p>\n

Apparently, I just put up an index page at first, with links to my other sites. Eventually, I installed WordPress, and started this blog on October 3, 2009, with a very short article.<\/p>\n

There was a comment from my friend, Ken Puls, who was amazed that anyone could manage two blogs. Ah, those were the good old, innocent days!<\/p>\n

Popular Posts<\/h3>\n

Since then, I’ve posted many articles, with Microsoft Office tips, gadget info, consulting advice, and other bits of info.<\/p>\n

Overall, the most popular posts are my Microsoft Access tips, like this one, that shows how to hide the Date Picker Calendar<\/a> in a data entry form.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This year, I’ll try to post a couple of times a month, and get a few more Microsoft Access articles done. I still use a couple of Access databases to manage my Contextures business, so that should give me some topic ideas.<\/p>\n

Who You Are<\/h3>\n

And speaking about name domains, and establishing your identity, here’s a non-business project for 2019, I’m following the 52 week photo challenge<\/a>, on the Dogwood Photography website.<\/p>\n

There’s one photo challenge each week, and the first one is “Take a picture that tells us who you are, without actually showing your face.”<\/p>\n

What would your photo show? Here’s mine – a shot of the bookcase beside my desk. That’s where I spend most of my time, and I certainly use Google many times during the day! That’s a Canadian version of their logo, with a moose and maple leaf.<\/p>\n

The bookshelf holds my pivot table books, and it took a big chunk of my life to write those! You can also see a few of my notebooks (there are lots of others), and\u00a0 a few favourite cookbooks \u2013 I use those every Saturday, to plan our weekly menu.<\/p>\n

Daily Sketches<\/h3>\n

The coloured pens get used every day too, to make a sketches in my daily calendar. I draw something that shows one of that day’s events, and am not hampered by my complete lack of artistic talent. It’s just fun to do something other than spreadsheets!<\/p>\n

For example,\u00a0 if you’ve met my husband, you know that he looks exactly like this sketch of him, wearing his new winter coat. Those “high water” pants are a nice touch, right?<\/p>\n
